Final decision in Exelon – Pepco merger expected by March 4
Although the Washington, D.C. Public Service Commission has not scheduled another meeting to discuss the mega merger between Chicago-based Exelon and Pepco, Exelon CEO Chris Cane told investors this month that the PSC had agreed to issue a final decision by March 4, according to the Washington Business Journal. The D.C. PSC has already rejected the merger once, but since then the two utilities have sweetened the deal, with Exelon offering more financial incentives and to co-locate its headquarters in the District.
The Maryland Public Service Commission already has approved the merger, as have regulatory agencies inDelaware, New Jersey and Virginia. In Montgomery County, Exelon agreed to build a network of recreation trails along power line routes as part of a deal to approve the merger.
If the deal falls through before the March 4 deadline, which was set by the two utility companies, Exelon would have to pay Pepco $180 million, according to the Business Journal report. Already, Exelon has spent about $259 million pursuing the merger.

Helen’s The Bar, which has been in the works at the former Addie’s location on Rockville Pike for the past two years, needs a little help to reach the finish line. The restaurant launched a GoFundMe campaign Saturday to raise $25,000 to help complete the restaurant.
On the fundraising page, owner Helen Wasserman, a longtime caterer in Washington, D.C., wrote, “After being in the business for more than 30 years, my life-long dream is to open up a restaurant so the world could taste some of my fantastic dishes. We are 90% to completion but need your help in seeking the other 10% that totals $25,000.” She added that anyone who donates will receive a credit for a complimentary dinner up to the donated value once the restaurant opens.
