A two-story barn that housed maintenance equipment and fertilizer at Woodmont Country Club in Rockville was destroyed by fire late Thursday night.
More than 75 firefighters responded to the two-alarm fire that broke out around 11 p.m. and caused the barn’s roof to collapse, according to Montgomery County fire department spokesman Pete Piringer. No one was injured at the Rockville country club, Piringer said. Firefighters have not yet released a damage estimate or cause.
Due to the size of the fire crews had to manage it as a controlled burn and remained on scene Friday morning to control hotspots, according to Piringer.
The fire was one of two incidents that county firefighters responded to Thursday night. Near Glenn Road in Potomac, a chicken coop caught fire, killing 25 chickens, according to fire officials.
