Kapnos Kouzina planning for March opening

Mike Isabella’s anticipated new restaurant on Bethesda Row is aiming to open in March, a spokeswoman for the chef said earlier this week. Construction workers are renovating the former Vapiano space at the corner of Elm Street and Woodmont Avenue to make way for the Greek concept, which will be Isabella’s third Kapnos. A fourth Kapnos is scheduled to open in Merrifield, Virginia, this summer as well. On Monday, Kapnos tweeted the restaurant is now taking applications for wait staff and cook positions at the Bethesda location. The restaurant, originally slated to open sometime last fall, has been delayed due to construction delays.

The Georgia Avenue nightclub was sold to an undisclosed buyer at an auction Wednesday for $500,000, according to The Washington Post. The Silver Spring nightclub had been operated by a management company hired by Homeland Security Investigations, the investigative arm of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, after its owner, Jason Miskiri, pleaded guilty to drug trafficking in April. Miskiri, a former standout basketball player at Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring and George Mason University who played briefly in the NBA, admitted to buying the nightclub with money he obtained from distributing more than 1,000 kilograms of marijuana. As a result of the guilty plea, the restaurant was seized by federal authorities and the money from the auction will be used to repay $100,000 in debt owed by the restaurant, while the remainder will go to the Treasury Forfeiture Fund at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, according to The Post.

The new restaurant opened at the Cathedral Commons development at the corner of Newark Street and Wisconsin Avenue in Northwest. The restaurant is owned by the husband-and-wife team Rick and Valerie and Dugan.
