Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) announced it will open on a two-hour delay Tuesday because of snow.
The school system made the announcement 4:57 a.m. Tuesday.
The two-hour delay means morning pre-kindergarten, morning half-day Head Start and other morning half-day programs and field trips are canceled. Programs that begin at 10:30 a.m. or earlier are canceled.
Administrative offices will open on time and day care programs in school buildings will remain open as scheduled.
The school system canceled classes on Friday, Jan. 22, before a record snowstorm that brought 30 inches to much of the county began that afternoon. After a scheduled off day on Monday, Jan. 25, schools were closed for the remaining four days of the week because of school parking lots and neighborhood sidewalks that remained full of snow.
The school system schedules four extra days, above the state’s required minimum number of instruction days, in case of school closures.
MCPS already must make up one day at the end of the school year in June, unless it applies for and receives a waiver from the state.
