Westbard Sector Plan public hearings
Members of the public will have the opportunity to weigh in on the Westbard Sector Plan at public hearings Tuesday and Thursday held by the County Council. Both hearings take place at 7:30 p.m. at the Council Office Building in Rockville. Many Westbard residents have criticized the plan, which will guide development in Westbard for the next two decades, because they say it will allow too much new housing to be built in a congested neighborhood that lacks public transit options.
Temperatures expected to climb into the 60s
Expect warm weather to melt away the remaining snow this week. The National Weather Service predicts a high near 57 degrees Monday with showers in the afternoon and at night. Tuesday is expected to be partly sunny with a high near 47 and a nighttime low around 42 degrees. There’s a 100 percent chance of rain Wednesday with a high of 62 degrees. Thursday and Friday are expected to be sunny with highs in the mid-40s.
County Council to discuss state legislative bills
The Montgomery County Council is scheduled to meet at 12:30 p.m. Monday for an update on bills that affect the county under consideration in the General Assembly. Controversial changes to the structure of the Department of Liquor Control as well as bills about early voting centers, a student loan refinancing authority and other issues are on the agenda to be discussed.
Silver Spring bike lane discussion
The Montgomery County Department of Transportation will host a public meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Silver Spring Civic Building to discuss a plan to install a separated bike lane in Silver Spring. The bike lane would extend about a mile along Spring and Cedar streets between Wayne and 2nd avenues.
