Co-working Space Coming to Bethesda’s 4500 East West Highway Building

New York-based Serendipity Labs Coworking has signed lease for 19,000 square feet of Class A office building

A New York-based co-working brand is coming to downtown Bethesda’s newest office building.

Serendipity Labs Coworking announced Monday that it has signed a lease with building owner Carr Properties for 19,000 square feet of the 4500 East West Highway building.

The building, which Carr finished in 2014, is a few blocks east of the Bethesda Metro station. Serendipity will join small business loan company Rapid Advance and education company Teaching Strategies LLC as tenants in the building.

The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists has a deal in place with Carr to relocate its headquarters from 7272 Wisconsin Ave. to 4500 East West Highway. Carr and partner Alony Hetz Properties and Investments announced in November they purchased the 7272 Wisconsin property, known as the Apex Building, and are pursuing a redevelopment project there.

The Bethesda location will be the eighth co-working space for Serendipity, which offers full-time private offices, day passes and conference rooms with space for up to 20 people to companies in need of special project space.

Serendipity hopes to open the space in June. It will take up the entire second floor of the building. Office plans start at $199 a month.

In a press release announcing the Bethesda location, Serendipity CEO John Arenas said 20 percent of its members are start-ups, 35 percent are independent and 45 percent are employees of established companies.

The company is offering a 30-day free trial and pre-opening specials for offices and team rooms at its Bethesda location.

The Bethesda space will also include access to a rooftop patio.

In 2014, co-working company UberOffices (now MakeOffices) launched a 20,000-square-foot space with 50 offices in the Bethesda Crossing building on Wisconsin Avenue.
