By one estimate, Montgomery County’s Highway Services division must plow or remove almost 4.8 million cubic feet of snow, the equivalent of 7,822 Olympic-sized swimming pools.
About 4,000 of the 5,123 lane miles of road the county is responsible for clearing of snow are smaller neighborhood streets, the kind that can cause much frustration for residents if not cleared in a timely manner.
County officials pleaded for patience plowing those streets, saying operations in neighborhoods began early Monday morning and will continue around the clock.
The Twitter account for the county’s Highway Services division was inundated Monday with questions and requests for plowing on specific streets.
