Paving Work Could Cause Rush Hour Headaches at Busy Silver Spring Intersection

Three lanes of Route 29 at University Boulevard will be closed in Four Corners

Three lanes of northbound Route 29 at University Boulevard in Silver Spring will remain closed through Wednesday evening’s rush hour commute because of a paving project related to water main repair work.

Three lanes of westbound University Boulevard just east of the intersection will also remain closed.

A contractor for the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) is finishing paving work at the intersection after a scheduled water main repair project earlier this month, according to WSSC spokesperson Lyn Riggins.

Riggins said a delay in getting asphalt Wednesday morning because of the cold temperatures means there’s “a fair amount of paving restoration” that still must be done.

WSSC expects all paving to be finished late Thursday night and all lanes to reopen for the Friday morning rush hour.

The lanes at the intersection will remain closed through both the Thursday morning and evening rush hour periods, unless there’s an unexpected schedule change.
