Updated Wednesday – The National Weather Service (NWS) on Wednesday morning issued a Blizzard Watch for Montgomery County set to go into effect Friday afternoon and last through late Saturday night.
The NWS said there is potential for a foot or more of snow over that timeframe, with heavy snow and blowing wind causing dangerous conditions that could make travel "severely limited if not impossible."
Local forecasters on Wednesday began calling for double-digit snow totals and potential blizzard conditions.
On Wednesday morning, forecasters predicted snowfall totals from 10 inches to 24 inches across Montgomery County, though those totals could change as the storm approaches. It's also possible the storm lasts into Sunday.
The NWS said details such as the amount of snow and timing will be “fine tuned over the next couple days.”
The Highway Services division of the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) announced Wednesday it's gearing up for between 12 and 18 inches of snow and the potential for 48 hours of consistent snowfall.
The Highway Services division is responsible for plowing county roadways.
County officials are advising residents to keep an eye on the county’s web page dedicated to providing information on snow-related delays, closings, snow removal progress and power outages.
