The National Weather Service (NWS) says there is potential for a major snow storm Friday and Saturday in the Washington, D.C., area.
The NWS advised of a winter storm threat Monday morning, saying there is a moderate chance of a major storm. Moderate is one step below high on the threat index.
How much snow will fall, if any, is still very much unknown, according to meteorologists:
Remember still WAY too early to say what will happen. Yes there will be a storm. Be we just have to watch it to see what it brings.

“The dominant precipitation type will depend on the exact storm track which can’t be pinned down at this stage but areas west of I-95 and especially towards I-81 have the best chance of precipitation remaining mostly snow,” wrote Jason Samenow of the Washington Post’s Capital Weather Gang. “And in those areas snow totals could be quite substantial.”
One thing is for certain: the snow hype machine has already started:
I apologize for myself in advance. There will be so much hype in advance of this and I might get caught up in it. If I am let me know
