Duck Duck Goose delays opening
The new French brasserie under development by 4935 Bar and Kitchen owner Ashish Alfred has pushed back its projected opening by a month. Alfred said Wednesday he’s now planning to open the Bethesda restaurant in February, rather than January. The restaurant received its liquor license from the county last month, but Alfred said he’s still ironing out aspects of the Woodmont Triangle space. The restaurant will fill the former location of Brasserie Monte Carlo, which closed last year.

The sub shop Taylor Gourmet has added a turkey hoagie and a truffle cheesesteak to its menu this winter. The turkey hoagie, dubbed the Father Tavlarides after a now-deceased Greek Orthodox priest who took in Taylor’s owner, Casey Patten, when he first moved to Washington, D.C., comes with turkey, lemon tahini spread, cucumber, roasted red pepper salad and pepperoncini. A portion of the sandwich sales will be given to Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in D.C., where Tavlarides worked, to help repair the roof of the church. The sub shop also is now offering 3-foot-long sandwiches for $99 for Super Bowl Sunday on Feb. 7. The chain has a location on Bethesda Row.
Roti closes near Westfield Montgomery Mall
The Mediterranean fast-casual restaurant Roti closed its Westlake Drive location near the Bethesda mall over the holidays. Carl Segal, CEO of the chain, told the local retail blog Store Reporter that the location closed as new competitors such as Cava Grill and Chipotle opened in the mall’s new dining terrace. Roti hasn’t exited the local market, however: a new location opened last year at Federal Realty’s Pike & Rose development on Rockville Pike in North Bethesda.
