Martin Luther King Jr. Day Closings and Events

Government facilities will be closed and volunteering opportunities will be aplenty Monday

January 13, 2016 10:34 a.m.

Montgomery County will host an array of volunteer projects Monday to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center and satellite sites in Silver Spring and Gaithersburg.

The MLK Day of Service 2016 will run from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Bethesda North Marriott and include packaging meals for area food banks, tying bracelets for members of the military, making fleece blankets for Montgomery Hospice and the children of Syrian refugees and decorating holiday cards for seniors.

The Montgomery County Volunteer Center will also host volunteer projects from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Seneca Creek Community Church and from 10 a.m. to noon at the Silver Spring Civic Building.

Student Service Learning hours for Montgomery County Public Schools students are available to those who participate.
