Two people suffered nonlife-threatening injuries and six residents were displaced by a Tuesday night fire on the 16th floor of a 17-floor apartment building in Chevy Chase.
The fire at the Willard Apartments at 4701 Willard Ave. broke out around 8 p.m., according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service spokesman Pete Piringer.
One of those injured suffered burns, Piringer said. Fire officials said a malfunctioning extension cord caused the fire, which was kept from spreading by hallway sprinklers.
The fire caused about $25,000 in damage, Piringer said.
Most residents were allowed to return to their apartments a few hours after the fire broke out.
