Jackie’s could remain open without Jackie Greenbaum at the helm

On Wednesday, Jackie’s Restaurant owner Jackie Greenbaum announced she will close the Silver Spring restaurant after an 11-year run on Georgia Avenue. But a stipulation in her lease could allow the restaurant to remain open, even without her at the helm. Greenbaum said in an interview with Bethesda Beat Wednesday that her landlord has the right to continue operating the restaurant under the name Jackie’s if he chooses to do so. She said she doesn’t know what the landlord’s plans are, but said she has offered to provide him with a pared-down comfort food menu if he decides to try to take over the restaurant. When asked if she thought it might be odd to have someone else run a restaurant named after her, she said she wouldn’t mind. Greenbaum plans on shutting down the restaurant in March.

“In my opinion, farming is the most respectable occupation on Earth, second only to cooking and the art of transforming produce into delectable dishes for others to enjoy,” de Decker said. He will be helping the longtime neighborhood restaurant celebrate its 30th anniversary this year as well as help prepare for the opening of its new bar area, according to the restaurant.

The Rockville brewery being built out on Lofstrand Lane is still waiting for permits before it can start operating, according to co-owner Josey Schwartz. In the meantime, Schwartz, who initially hoped to open the taproom in August, said he’s been developing the beer varieties the business plans to offer. The brewery also recently updated its website to provide more information about the buildout and its plans to create a business that not only offers craft beer and coffee, but also aims to be environmentally conscious by producing zero waste and generating its own electricity with solar panels.
