The center of the successful Downtown Silver Spring development is in line for a makeover.
Peterson Cos., the developer that more than a decade ago built the 440,000-square-foot retail, restaurant and entertainment project along Ellsworth Avenue, will go before the Montgomery County Planning Board next week for approval of its proposed changes.
Peterson hopes to modify a large outdoor staircase in the development’s main public plaza and relocate an ATM attached to the staircase, a popular spot to sit for those enjoying concerts and other entertainment on the plaza.
The proposed project also would include the removal of deteriorating mosaic tiles on the staircase, which leads to second-floor restaurant and retail space.
New public art, from Virginia-based abstract painter David Carlson, will be installed along the staircase rail and lit with LED lights.
