A top-selling local real estate team has split off from Long & Foster to form its own brokerage.

Hans and Steve Wydler announced their Wydler Brothers Real Estate company is now independent and hopes to expand to about 100 employees from its current 40 employees by the end of the year.

“It’s a big step. I’m four-fifths super-excited and one-fifth terrified,” said Hans Wydler. “Our business had evolved into almost a boutique brokerage within Long & Foster so this was a pretty logical next step.”

The Wydler Brothers team recorded about $250 million in sales in 2015, according to Hans Wydler. In 2014, it was the top Washington-area real estate team in the country, ranked 25th, with more than $222 million in sales, according to industry news outlet Real Trends.

The new Wydler Brothers Real Estate company will have offices in Chevy Chase, McLean and Dupont Circle.

“The Wydler Brothers achieved great success as part of the Long & Foster family over the past 10+ years,” said Long & Foster President and COO Jeff Detwiler in a news release. “As they look toward new ventures, we wish them the best of luck and we look forward to continuing a productive relationship with them in the future.”
