The Parva Cocina & Tequila Bar in downtown Bethesda has closed, according to a sign posted on the restaurant’s front door.
“We regret to inform our loyal patrons that Parva Restaurant has reached 5 year lease and has closed until further notice,” the sign read. “We look forward to serving you in a near future location. Thank you for your patronage during all this time!”
The restaurant, known as The Parva before rebranding in 2014, infuriated some across-the-street condo dwellers who complained that its upstairs dance lounge was too loud and a magnet for drunken behavior.
One condo owner at the Fairmont Plaza across Woodmont Avenue from the restaurant installed a camera looking down on the building and streamed the footage live on the Internet.
At the time, the unnamed resident said the since-abandoned website, theparvacam.com, was meant to chronicle the “debauchery” coming from the restaurant and that “urination, assault, drunk driving and egregious noise violations are just some of the sights being recorded.”
In May 2014, a group of Fairmont Plaza residents unsuccessfully challenged The Parva’s alcohol license before the Montgomery County Board of License Commissioners. Despite the complaints about booming late night dance music and customers urinating in a nearby alley, the restaurant hadn’t been issued an alcohol or noise violation since opening in June 2011.
It was one of the few non-hotel businesses in the county that offered bottled service, though its owners said the operation was more focused on the downstairs restaurant than the upstairs party spot.
