Rain continues, but temperatures expected to cool down – The balmy holiday weather over the weekend is not likely to continue this week, but the rain is. The National Weather Service predicts a chance of rain this afternoon and more this evening, with a high temperature reaching 47 degrees and a nighttime low of 41. The rain is expected to continue, off and on, Tuesday and Wednesday before stopping Thursday. It will be a bit warmer mid-week with highs expected in the mid 50s and lows dropping into the upper 40s. New Year’s Eve on Thursday night could be a chilly, with a low of 35 degrees predicted. A chilly New Year’s Day on Friday is expected to follow, with a sunny high reaching to 43 degrees.

New Year’s Day closings – The following Montgomery County entities will operate on a holiday schedule:

  • Libraries will close at 6 p.m. Dec. 31 and be closed Jan. 1 and 2.
  • The county government will be closed Jan. 1.
  • Courts will be closed Jan. 1.
  • There will be no trash pickup Jan. 1 and pickup will operate on a sliding schedule after that, so homes that normally would have their trash collected Friday will receive trash pickup Saturday instead.
