Silver Spring-based Lloyd Dobler Effect will play their annual holiday show featuring a mix of Christmas music and other songs. The event starts at 7 p.m. and tickets are $18 – $23 at the door.
Maryland Youth Ballet’s The Nutcracker – Multiple weekend shows – Montgomery College Performing Arts Center, 51 Mannakee St., Rockville
The popular Christmas ballet featuring Tchaikovsky’s score will be performed by the Silver Spring-based youth ballet multiple times this weekend. The show will take place at 7 p.m. Friday, and at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $31 for adults and $26 for children and seniors.
Non-Fiction: A Tribute to The Black Crowes – Friday night – Villain & Saint, 7141 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda
Hear The Black Crowes’ hits like “Hard to Handle” and “Jealous Again” Friday when the cover band Non-Fiction plays at Villain & Saint. The show starts at 9 p.m. and tickets are $12.
Handel’s Messiah – Saturday night, Sunday afternoon – The Music Center at Strathmore
The National Philharmonic will ring in Christmas week with two performances of Handel’s Messiah. The Saturday night performance starts at 8 p.m. and the Sunday matinee is at 3 p.m. Tickets range from $44 to $99.
A Year with Frog and Toad – multiple shows – Imagination Stage, 4908 Auburn Ave., Bethesda
Two friends awake from hibernation and go on “hilarious and heartwarming” adventures in this play at the Bethesda children’s theater. Multiple shows take place Saturday and Sunday and tickets range from $17 to $25.
A Lump of Coal for Christmas – multiple shows – Adventure Theatre, Glen Echo Park
It’s a children’s play about a lump of coal thatwants to be an artist. In this case, the “dreaded stocking stuffer… turns one child’s worst nightmare into a dream come true.” Three performances are scheduled for Saturday and two on Sunday. Tickets are $20.
