Leggett calls for dram shop law

Following the Tuesday funeral for Montgomery County police Officer Noah Leotta, who died after being struck by a vehicle driven by a suspected drunken driver, Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett called for the state to pass a law that would hold a business or host who serves drinks to a drunken guest liable if that person injures anyone while drunk. NIST and others announce winners of head injury prevention competition

The Gaithersburg-based National Institute of Standards and Technology announced five winners of its innovation challenge, organized to speed up development of materials capable of reducing head injuries. The competition was organized with the NFL and military in mind and NIST partnered with the NFL, Under Armour and General Electric to give away $250,000 to advance the winners’ work. [NIST.gov]
