Thousands attend funeral for Officer Noah Leotta

About 2,000 police officers, family members, friends and others attended a funeral service in Gaithersburg Tuesday for Montgomery County police Officer Noah Leotta, 24, who died last week after being struck by a vehicle driven by a suspected drunken driver. Leotta was remembered as a bright, well-liked young officer who enjoyed his work. [The Washington Post]

Transit group files appeal in Purple Line case

The Action Committee for Transit (ACT) formally filed Dec. 11 its appeal with the Court of Special Appeals of Maryland to attempt to obtain information about meetings in which the Town of Chevy Chase discussed contracts for lobbyists to fight the Purple Line. Metro considers offer from beer company to provide free rides on New Year’s Eve

A New Year’s Eve ride on the Metro may be free if the Metro board approves beer producer MillerCoors’ proposal to provide money to cover train rides from midnight until 3 a.m. Jan. 1. The board is expected to vote Thursday on the $165,000 proposal. [WTOP]

Rockville’s financial outlook is strong

A new financial report shows that the City of Rockville ended fiscal 2015 on June 30 with a $326 million net position—sufficient to cover its bond obligations, but slightly lower than last year’s position due to a change in how pensions were accounted. Public hearing on taxi credit card bill
