Committee for Montgomery legislative breakfast – Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser and Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker will join Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett at this political event Wednesday morning. The breakfast is part of the county’s advocacy in support of its agenda during the upcoming Maryland General Assembly session, which begins in January. Business, civic and nonprofit leaders along with county and state officials are expected to attend the 7 a.m. event at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center.
Board of Education scheduled to discuss calendar change – The Montgomery County Board of Education is scheduled Monday afternoon to discuss a shift in the school calendar that would move the start of the school year up in order to close schools to students on Sept. 12, the Muslim holiday of Eid Al-Adha. That day would remain a work day for teachers. The board is scheduled to meet at 2:30 p.m. and the calendar issue is the only agenda item.
Warm weather to linger – The weather won’t be quite as beautiful as it was over the weekend, but this week should still be pleasant. The National Weather Service predicts high temperatures of 68 degrees Monday, 62 degrees Tuesday and 60 degrees Wednesday. Showers are likely Monday afternoon, but Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to be sunny. There’s a 70 percent chance of showers Thursday with a high of 57 degrees. A sunny Friday is predicted with a high of 49. Nighttime lows this week will drop into the low-40s.
Leggett to host online discussion – County Executive Ike Leggett is scheduled to host an online chat with residents at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The discussion is a way for residents to pose questions directly to the county leader. Individuals can sign up for the event on the county’s website. Note: The county changed the time of this event from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday morning.
County Council to meet with state delegation – Montgomery County Council members are scheduled to meet Thursday at 9 a.m. with the county’s state legislative delegation to discuss economic development efforts in the county. The meeting at the Silver Spring Library comes as the delegation debates controversial proposals to alter the county’s monopoly on the sale and distribution of alcohol.
