Northern Rockville and the Gaithersburg area will get a new organic grocery store next year.

MOM’s Organic Market CEO Scott Nash confirmed Monday that the Rockville-based grocer will open one of five new stores planned for next year near the Gaithersburg and Rockville line. The store will be near the intersection of Choke Cherry Road and Shady Grove Road as part of the Upper Rock development, directly off of I-270. The site is currently a parking lot.

Nash said the store will be about 16,000 square feet, making it about as large as the company’s other Rockville store, and include a “Naked Lunch” counter—a vegetarian prepared foods section.

He said the company is looking at an October opening. MOM’s chose the location because of a lack of organic food stores in the area.

The local company also plans to open stores in the Hampden neighborhood of Baltimore, White Marsh, Center City in Philadelphia and Cherry Hill, New Jersey. The new stores will bring the company’s total to 19.

“It’s going to be a busy year,” Nash said.

The new Rockville location is about eight miles from the MOM’s at 5612 Randolph Road in Rockville.
