Weekend Events: Winter Wonderland in Bethesda; Holiday Plays

Winter Wonderland – Saturday afternoon – Veterans Park, Bethesda

Bethesda Urban Partnership’s annual Winter Wonderland event will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. The event features a choral concert by local school performance groups, ice sculpting and a visit from Santa. The free event is at Veterans Park, at the intersection of Woodmont and Norfolk avenues.

Metropolitan Ballet Theatre’s The Nutcracker – Friday, Saturday and Sunday shows – Robert E. Parilla Performing Arts Center, 51 Mannakee Street, Rockville

The Gaithersburg ballet company is scheduled to perform the classic holiday ballet The Nutcracker multiple times this weekend. Metropolitan Ballet Theatre has been performing the show since 1989. Shows are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday, noon and 4 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday. Tickets start at $19.

Leonard, Coleman & Blunt – Friday night – Bethesda Blues and Jazz Supper Club

Glenn Leonard, Joe Coleman and Joe Blunt will come together Friday night to welcome the holidays with a lineup of Christmas classics at the Bethesda jazz club. Leonard, Coleman and Blunt are former vocalists for The Temptations, The Platters and The Drifters, respectively. The show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $25.

A Charlie Brown Christmas – Premieres this weekend – Arts Barn, 311 Kent Square Road, Gaithersburg

The animated TV special will come to life in this stage adaptation of A Charlie Brown Christmas. Adults will play the roles of Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the other “Peanuts” characters. Santa will also be on hand to read The Night Before Christmas during the show. The play premieres at 8 p.m. Friday. Shows will run on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights From Dec. 4 to 20. Tickets are $20 for adults and $12 for children.
