The driver of a SUV that was involved in a collision with a semi-truck near the Montgomery County and Prince George’s line early Monday morning has died from the injuries she suffered in the crash.
Police identified the driver as Yesewlek Endihnew Tizale, 24, of Potomac.
Police said the vehicle, a 2012 Infinity EX35, that was being driven by Tizale, was turning right from Broadbirch Drive onto Cherry Hill Road in Silver Spring at about 3 a.m. Monday when it collided with a semi-truck carrying U.S. mail that was traveling eastbound on Cherry Hill Road. The collision caused the mail truck to land on its side.
An adult male passenger in the Infinity was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police are not releasing the passenger’s name until his family can be notified.
The driver of the truck, Daniel Charles Free, 48, of Wheaton, was also transported to the hospital with what police described as non-life threatening injuries. Police are continuing to investigate the collision to determine the circumstances that led to it.
Pictures of the crash scene posted to social media Monday morning showed the Infiniti’s roof crushed with part of the semi-truck resting on it.
Tizale is listed as a 2015 graduate of the University of Maryland School of Public Health on the school’s website.
