YMCA Turkey Chase – Thursday morning – Bethesda

The 33rd Annual Bethesda-Chevy Chase YMCA Turkey Chase will take place in Bethesda Thursday morning with over 9,000 runners expected to participate in the 10k, 2-mile run and 50-meter kids run. The signature 10k starts at the YMCA at 9401 Old Georgetown Road and proceeds down Rockville Pike to Bethesda’s Woodmont Triangle before heading back to the Y on Old Georgetown Road. Online registration for the 10k is $45 and the 2-mile race is $25. The kids’ fun run is $20. The 10k starts at 8:30 a.m. Lane closures will take place along the race route.

A Christmas Carol – Saturday afternoon and evening – F. Scott Fitzgerald Theater, Rockville

The Hope Garden Children’s Ballet Theatre will host its annual performance of A Christmas Carol. The play adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic will be performed at 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday. Tickets to the show are $22 for adults or $19 for children, seniors and active duty military. The theater is at 603 Edmonston Drive in Rockville.

Garden of Lights – Opens Friday – Brookside Gardens, 1800 Glenallan Ave., Silver Spring

Garden of Lights at the Brookside Gardens plant and nature center will return this year after being closed last year for renovations. The event turns the gardens into a winter wonderland illuminated with holiday lights. The display also features G-scale model trains and live nightly performances. Garden of Lights runs through Jan. 3 and is open daily starting at 5:30 p.m., except for on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Tickets are $25 per vehicle during the week and $30 per vehicle on the weekend.

 “The Wizard of Oz” – screening throughout the weekend – AFI Silver Theater and Cultural Center, Silver Spring

Step into the fantasy world of L. Frank Baum this weekend by attending a screening of the classic film “The Wizard of Oz.” The movie will be playing at the AFI Silver Theater from Nov. 26 – Nov. 30 with multiple show times on Thursday and Friday and single screenings on Saturday and Sunday.

Curren$y – Saturday night – The Fillmore Silver Spring

Curren$y, a New Orleans rapper and past member of the 504 Boyz, will play The Fillmore with Dave East, Mike Floos and Teeda Teezy. The rapper released his latest album, Pilot Talk III, earlier this year. The show starts at 9 p.m. and tickets are $30.

Lloyd Dobler Effect – Wednesday night – Villain & Saint

Popular Silver Spring-based band Lloyd Dobler Effect will be hosting the pre-Thanksgiving party at Bethesda rock venue Villain & Saint. The band is expected to play a mix of original songs and covers. The band takes the stage at 9:30 p.m. and tickets are $8 at the door.

Small Business Saturday at Bethesda Row – Saturday – Bethesda Row

More than a dozen retailers and restaurants will be offering specials and sales on Small Business Saturday—the day after Black Friday designed to promote local businesses. The first 250 customers will receive a Bethesda Row shopping bag, which can be picked up at Sassanova Boutique (7134 Bethesda Lane) or Secolari (7249 Woodmont Ave.)
