A Rockville man pleaded guilty to traveling to the District to engage in sexual conduct with a minor after he attempted to meet up with a Washington, D.C., undercover detective to have sex with a girl he thought was 9 years old.

Ravi Singit, 41, pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

According to court documents, Singit responded to a message in August that was posted online by a Metropolitan Police Department detective as part of a federal initiative to catch child predators. Over the course of two days Singit told the detective—who Singit thought was a different dad with similar sexual interests—about fantasies he has about his own young daughter.

The detective lured Singit to Washington by saying he could engage in sexual activity with a 9-year-old girl, who Singit was led to believe was the daughter of the man he was speaking with.

Singit was arrested when he arrived at a pre-arranged location in D.C.

Singit faces a maximum of 30 years in prison and a fine up to $250,000. He is required to register as a sex offender for a minimum of 15 years after being released from prison, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.
