County Executive Ike Leggett is expected to return to the office Tuesday after working from home for the previous 10 days while recovering from back surgery, according to his spokesman Patrick Lacefield.
Lacefield said he didn’t know the exact nature of the surgery, but said Leggett has been suffering from back pain for a while and finally decided to undergo surgery.
“He’s scheduled to be back in the office tomorrow on a limited basis,” Lacefield said. He added that he has talked to the county executive about four or five times per day while Leggett has been working from home.
Lacefield also said that Timothy Firestine, the chief administrative officer for the county, has taken a somewhat larger role in the day-to-day county operations while Leggett has been recovering.
Leggett, who is 71 and now in his third term as county executive, typically makes a number of public appearances, but his unannounced surgery hasn’t received a significant amount of attention.
Leggett was scheduled to participate in an online discussion with members of the public from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, but that event was postponed Monday morning. The county said a new date will be posted on the county website.
