A candy store that sources its hazelnut candies from Italy and gummies from Germany plans to open on Bethesda Row in time for the holiday shopping season.

Sugarfina, a Los Angeles-based chain of candy boutiques “for grown-ups,” put up signs this week on the storefront at 4808 Bethesda Ave. Art supply store Knits, Etc. recently vacated the space.

Sugarfina boasts a line of Greek Goddess chocolates with kumquats, cherries and strawberries from the Greek islands. A “small cube” of Apple Cinnamon Bites imported from Poland cost $7 on the store’s website. A pack of Gummy Kicks, gummy bears shaped like sneakers and imported from Germany, costs the same amount, according to the store’s website.

Co-founders Rosie O’Neill and Josh Resnick got the idea for the store after seeing the movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory on a date.
