After reaching a deal with a buyer, City Sports now plans to close all of its stores, including its Bethesda location, and liquidate its assets.
The news was reported by the Boston Globe Wednesday. Previously, the Boston-based athletic retailer said it would only close eight of its stores while it looked for a buyer for the remaining 18 stores. Among the 18 that were expected to stay open was the Bethesda Row store.
However, the company has agreed to sell its assets to Illinois-based Hilco Merchant Resources, which plans to sell off City Sports’ remaining assets during going-out-of-business sales, according to the Globe report.
Those sales are set to begin Friday. City Sports has already closed its Pike & Rose location and is in the process of closing its downtown Silver Spring store.
