Saluting Our Wounded Heroes
On Wednesday, October 28, Urban Country hosted its annual 24th Anniversary and Silent Auction Celebration. The Bethesda-based home furnishings and design retailer marked 24 years of providing luxury interior design services and fine home furnishings to the national capital region while honoring local wounded military veterans during a wine and hors d’oeuvres reception. The event boasted a large selection merchandise, gift and vacation packages from area retailers and restaurants in a silent auction presentation with proceeds benefitting the Warrior Canine Connection – a pioneering Maryland-based nonprofit organization that utilizes clinically based Canine Connection Therapy to help wounded Warriors reconnect with life, their families, their communities and each other. The event raised more than $5,500 for the Warrior Canine Connection.
This year’s special guest and master of ceremonies was Tommy McFly, host of the popular The Tommy Show on 94.7 Fresh FM and a WUSA 9 entertainment correspondent. Warrior Canine Connection Executive Director Rick Yount and veteran Jake Young spoke about their experiences with the organization. Auction items were donated by a variety of local and regional retailers including Pink Palm, Morley Fashion Boutique, Le Creuset, Mama Lucia’s, Chaplin’s Restaurant, Redwood Restaurant, Cork & Fork, Bluemercury, VIDA Fitness, Squash on Fire, Antrim 1844 Bed & Breakfast, Simon Pearce, Studio E Partners and Marin’s Sedan & Limousine Service.
