Montgomery County has received $800,000 in state aid, which it will direct toward refurbishment projects at the Davis and Little Falls libraries in Bethesda.
The County Council approved the supplemental appropriation Tuesday.
The funds will be used to update carpeting, furniture, old rooms and paint as well as to convert spaces to digital media or computer labs, according to a memo provided to the County Council.
The state funds have been added to the county’s library refurbishment budget over the next five years, increasing the total amount of funding to about $13.1 million. The refurbishment project has already begun at other libraries, including the Twinbrook and Kensington Park branches, which are closed for renovations. The Davis branch in Bethesda is next in line.
The county’s goal is to refurbish three of the library system’s 21 libraries each year until all have been completed, according to the memo, which also noted many of the libraries haven’t been significantly updated in 20 years.
