Halloween Parties This Weekend In and Near Bethesda

Several restaurants offering drink specials and costume contests to celebrate holiday Saturday night

With Halloween falling on a Saturday night this year, local bars and eateries are getting into the spirit by offering drinks specials, costumes contests and other events. Here are several options:  

Jack the Ripper’s Two Nights of Fright at Union Jack’s – 4915 St. Elmo Ave., Bethesda – Friday and Saturday nights

Union Jack’s on St. Elmo Avenue in Bethesda is holding a costume contest on Friday and Saturday nights. There will be over $1,000 in cash prizes, and the grand prize is a three-day, two-night trip to Jamaica or Puerto Rico (airfare and accommodations included). No cover charge.

Caddies Halloween Bash at Caddies on Cordell – 4922 Cordell Ave., Bethesda – Friday and Saturday nights

Caddies on Cordell is celebrating Halloween with two nights of festivities. Caddies is offering $10 pitchers of Bud Light, Miller Lite, Coors Light and Yuengling; $14 buckets of non-premium beer; $4.40 Fireball and Fiery Apple shots (Fireball with Jim Beam Apple). On both Friday and Saturday nights, free samples of Fireball and Jim Beam also will be available. There will also be a costume contest with prizes and giveaways.

‘Trick or Treat Like a Grown Up’ Halloween Bar Crawl – Bethesda – Friday and Saturday nights

Registration for the bar crawl runs from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Rock Bottom Restaurant and Brewery on Norfolk Avenue, where participants will receive a wristband and a map of the other Bethesda bars that are participating. The crawl lasts until 2 a.m. Tickets must be purchased online and range from $20 for an individual ticket to $75 for groups. A discounted two-day ticket is available for $30. Tickets provide access to five bars, happy hour drink specials, half-price appetizers and a free Halloween after-party. Discounts for Uber are available for rides home. Discounts for rooms at the Bethesda Courtyard Hotel are also available. Participants are encouraged to wear costumes.

Trick-or-treating – Bethesda Row – Friday night

Face of the Week

Families can enjoy a pre-Halloween family-friendly trick-or-treating event at Bethesda Row Friday night. The annual event runs from 5 to 7 p.m. and includes live music, small bites and retailers giving out candy and other treats.

The Barking Dog Bethesda – 4723 Elm St., Bethesda – Saturday night

The Barking Dog is offering drink specials, including an open bar for $25 as well as $3 Michelob Ultras and $4 Pumpkin Shandy specials, from 9 p.m. until midnight Saturday. There will also be a costume contest. Live music by The Flicks starts at 9 p.m.

Halloween Costume Party at the Stained Glass Pub – 12510 Layhill Road, Silver Spring – Saturday night

Beginning at 9 p.m. Saturday, the pub will hold a costume contest with gift card prizes ranging from $25 to $100. Drink specials include $3 JELL-O shots and the “shot of the month” for $4.50. Live music by Kieran Whelan starts at 9 p.m.

The Rock-a-Sonics and The UBANGIS’ Halloween Bash at Hank Dietle’s Tavern – 11010 Rockville Pike, North Bethesda – Saturday night

On Halloween night from 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., the Rock-a-Sonics and The UBANGIS perform as part of the tavern’s weekly “Rockabilly Saturday Night” event. Costumes are encouraged. No cover charge.

The Dead Will Rise Again Rex Foundation Event and Costume Contest at Villian & Saint – 7141 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda – Saturday night

On the Bus, Beggars Tomb, Comic Book Colors and the Black Muddy River Band will perform at Villian & Saint from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m. Saturday as a benefit for the Rex Foundation. There will also be a costume contest. Doors open at 4 p.m. Tickets range from $30 to $35.

Halloween Pint Lunch and Party at Dogfish Head Alehouse – 800 West Diamond Ave., Gaithersburg – Saturday

Starting at 11 a.m. Saturday, the Dogfish Head Alehouse in Gaithersburg will host a Halloween pint lunch. With a purchase of an entree, customers will receive a free candy-stuffed pint glass. On Saturday night, the restaurant will offer Halloween specials and live music by Mark Scott starting at 10 p.m. Costumes are encouraged.

High Score Halloween Party at Flanagan’s Harp and Fiddle – 4844 Cordell Ave., Bethesda – Saturday night

The Irish pub will feature a disc jockey for a Halloween dance party starting at 9:30 p.m. Saturday. There will be costume contests with cash prizes. Free admission.

Monster Bash and Costume Party at the DoubleTree Hotel – 8120 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda – Saturday night

This second annual event runs from 9 p.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday. General admission tickets are $15 and VIP tickets are $50 and include access to a five-hour open bar. There will also be a disc jockey and dancing in the ballroom, costume contests and prizes, complimentary sweets stations, two movie theaters showing horror movies and cash bars.
