Benny Fischer said Friday he has sold his Potomac restaurant Benny’s Bar and Grill.

The owner said he has agreed to sell the restaurant to the owner of the longtime Glen Echo establishment the Irish Inn.

“My plans are to sit on a beach for about three or four weeks and catch up on all the time I didn’t get any sleep over the last three years,” Fischer joked. He opened Benny’s in 2013.

In a Facebook post, Fischer wrote that the restaurant’s last day of operation will be Sunday.

Chris Hughes, owner of the Irish Inn, said he hopes to have the Tuckerman Lane building reopened in January as a traditional Irish restaurant serving a similar menu as The Irish Inn. He said the space will be closed while it is renovated to give it an Irish pub feel. Hughes has operated the Glen Echo restaurant for 13 years.

“I have a general manager who wants to do something, a young chef who wants to do something, so I’m going to give them some work,” Hughes said, in a thick Irish accent, about why he decided to take over the Benny’s location.
