A Takoma Park man was killed in a single-car collision that occurred at midnight Tuesday near the intersection of Gist Avenue and Ray Drive in Silver Spring.
Montgomery County police spokeswoman Natasha Plotnikov said Mohammed Shafiq Kahn, 21, was driving southbound on Gist Avenue when his 2012 Volkswagen Passat left the roadway and struck a tree near the intersection. After striking the tree, the vehicle caught fire. Plotnikov said Kahn was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the collision.
