Sunrise Senior Living is taking over a Bethesda building that was home to another senior living community that closed earlier this year.
Sunrise, the McLean, Virginia-based operator with more than 300 locations, has applied for a site plan amendment with the Montgomery County Planning Department to make building improvements to 4925 Battery Lane.
The building was home to Springhouse Bethesda operated by HRC ManorCare until June 1, when the facility closed. The residents were given notice that they would have to move out in February.
Stacy Silber, the attorney representing Sunrise Senior Living at the Planning Department, told Bethesda Beat on Friday that “at this time, we are not responding to requests for interviews.”
Sunrise Senior Living’s corporate communications representatives didn’t return multiple requests for comment.
According to the application for a site plan amendment that was submitted Sept. 30, Sunrise’s development arm wants to add a covered drop-off area to the front of the building along Battery Lane. It also wants to remodel the building’s lobby and add new balconies on the west side of the nine-story structure.
The request to make the building improvements must be approved by the Montgomery County Planning Board.
