Real Estate App Makes Move Into Local Market With Chevy Chase Offices

Compass brokerage has tabbed agents from Trent & Co. to lead its local efforts

A real estate app and brokerage with a growing presence in the Washington area is extending into Maryland with a new office in Chevy Chase and a new team of real estate agents.

Compass, which in 2013 launched as a real estate listing app in New York City, has been hiring real estate agents in that area and other metropolitan areas to form a fast-growing brokerage with an emphasis on data and marketing.

Trent Heminger’s six-person Trent & Co. real estate team will lead the company’s efforts at its new 15,000-square-foot office space at The Collection at Chevy Chase.

“A lot of the questions we were getting from clients were technology-based,” Heminger said. “This is where we were finding a little bit of a challenge.”

Trent & Co. agent D’Ann Lanning said Compass will help with branding, by providing data to help find properties that better fit what a buyer wants and a suite of tools to help agents complete the behind-the-scenes paperwork and spend more time with clients.

That means an easier time creating fliers marketing specific properties and finding property valuations.

The Chevy Chase Compass office opened last week and will eventually be home to 200 agents. Trent & Co. did more than $100 million in sales and closed more than 130 transactions in 2014. Heminger lives in Bethesda.

“A lot of agents live where they sell,” Heminger said. “What’s important for Compass to continue to grow at the rapid pace they’re growing was to be able to make sure they had people who know the area. That drives your market awareness. Clients feel comfortable with the knowledge and help of agents they know.”
