The City Sports in downtown Silver Spring will be among the eight stores shut down after the Boston-based athletic retailer filed for bankruptcy earlier this month.

Eve Bould, marketing director for City Sports, confirmed the store at 8510 Fenton St., across from Whole Foods, would close by the end of the month. A store-closing sale is underway, according to Bould.

The Silver Spring location was the company's 21st store when it opened in Nov. 2011.

The retailer is closing eight of its 26 stores as part of a deal with liquidators Tiger Capital Group, according to the Wall Street Journal. As part of the deal, the new North Bethesda store at Federal Realty’s Pike & Rose development will also close. However, the Bethesda Row store will remain open, according to Bould.
