Markoff’s Haunted Forest

The Calleva farm attracts crowds from all over the Washington, D.C., area to venture through a forest trail lined with Vikings, vampires and demonic clowns. If the woods aren’t enough to scare some, the haunted village that's made of huts with twisted roof lines and packed with half-buried skeletons is sure to. Markoff’s also offers a maze, hayride and zip-line. Each attraction costs extra.
Field of Screams
$15-$25; opens at 6:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays as well as most Thursdays and Sundays through Nov. 1; 4501 Olney Laytonsville Road, Olney
Located in Olney, the Field of Screams offers four haunted attractions. Children and adults can take a terrifying 35-minute walk through dark forest trails scattered with haunted houses and zombies. Other attractions include haunted hayrides, glow-in-the-dark zombie-themed paintball and a 3-D haunted house.
Wheaton Haunted Train and Creepy Carousel
$6; 6:30–8:30 p.m. Oct. 10, 11, 16-18, 23-25, 28-31; 2002 Shorefield Road, Wheaton
This train ride aims to scare. Not suitable for children younger than 8, the Wheaton Haunted Train and Creepy Carousel features “frightening sights, sounds and creatures.” Visitors can ride through Wheaton Regional Park on a replica 1863 C.P. Huntington train or take a ride on the Ovid Hazen Wells carousel.
Cabin John “Eye Spy” Halloween Train
$6; 1 to 8 p.m on select days between Oct. 10-24; Cabin John Regional Park, 7410 Tuckerman Lane, Rockville
For children 8 years old and younger, the Eye Spy train is designed for fun rather than fright. As the train makes its way through the woods, passengers mark off Halloween characters hiding in the terrain on an Eye Spy card that they receive before boarding the train. Trains run every half hour, and children younger than 2 can ride free with a paid adult.
Silver Spring Zombie Walk
Free; 8 p.m. on Oct. 24; The walk will start near Jackie's Sidebar, 8081 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring
The annual event attracts hundreds of people who dress up as zombies for the night and this year will again include a screening of a zombie-inspired movie at the AFI Silver Theatre. This time, it'll be George Romero's "Day of the Dead." Tickets are required for the movie.
Pumpkin Rock N' Roll
Free; Noon to 4 p.m. on Oct. 31; Warner Circle Park, 10231 Carroll Place, Kensington
The afternoon festival will include a costume contest and parade, musical performances, food trucks, inflatable rides and a rock wall, plus the main event: The pumpkin roll derby race of Halloween pumpkins-turned-boxcars.
