Chevy Chase Village Police Arrest Man Wanted by U.S. Marshals

Police in Chevy Chase Village said they arrested a man wanted by the U.S. Marshals while he was riding a bicycle and pushing another one in the middle of Connecticut Avenue.

In a crime alert sent to residents, the village’s police department said an officer spotted two men on bicycles—with one of the men pushing a second bicycle–at 1:45 a.m. Thursday on southbound Connecticut Avenue.

The officer “engaged the pair in conversation” and both men identified themselves. Police said one of the men agreed to let the officer use a wireless fingerprint scanner to determine his identity.

Police said the fingerprint scanner identified him as Edward Ghee Jr. of the 5900 block of 14th Street in Northwest Washington, D.C., a different name than the man originally gave the officer.

Police said Ghee was wanted by the U.S. Marshals on a warrant for violating probation on a drug distribution charge. The officer arrested Ghee, who abandoned the two bicycles he had. Officers said they found a third bicycle abandoned nearby.

Police seized the bicycles, but according to the crime alert, didn’t charge Ghee with theft. The police department did ask residents to see if they were missing any bicycles—bicycle theft has been an issue in Chevy Chase Village this year.
