Update – 11:20 a.m. Friday – A 34-year-old Gaithersburg man trimming a tree on East Kirke Street in Chevy Chase suffered serious injuries when he was shocked around 1:25 p.m. Thursday.
Chevy Chase Village Police Department Chief John Fitzgerald said the man was trimming a tree when one of the branches fell onto a Pepco power line. The worker then attempted to knock the branch off the power line with a pole and the pole made contact with the wire, shocking the man, according to Fitzgerald.
The worker, who was working for a landscaping company, was able to make his way to the ground, where an officer saw serious burns on the man's body, Fitzgerald said.
Fire department spokesman Pete Piringer said the worker was transported to the burn center at MedStar Washington Hospital Center with potentially life-threatening injuries Thursday.
On Friday, Blake Dunlevy, the vice president of Poolesville-based D&A Dunlevy Landscaping, the landscaping company, said the man is in stable condition and has some burns on his body, but is doing fine.
