The Mexican restaurant that got its start in Bethesda’s Woodmont Triangle in February 2014 is set to expand with a second location.
Roberto Pietrobono, who created the Gringos & Mariachis concept with his brother Riccardo, said Wednesday they’ve agreed on a lease at Park Potomac, a residential and office development at Montrose Road and I-270 in Potomac.
Pietrobono said the new restaurant will fill a 3,000-square-foot ground floor space in a building across from MoCo’s Founding Farmers, another restaurant in the development. He said they’re planning to open in the spring or summer of 2016.
The restaurant will focus on the authentic Mexican cuisine it serves in Bethesda—al pastor, carne asada and barbacoa tacos; entrees such as mole poblano and chile relleno; a bevy of salsas; and appetizers including chorizo queso and guacamole. The restaurant is also known for its tequila selection and margarita varieties, including the jalapeno cucumber margarita.
Pietrobono said the restaurant will be similar in size and design to the Bethesda location, but have more outdoor seating.
This will be the fourth restaurant for the Pietrobono brothers, who also operate the popular Olazzo Italian restaurants in Silver Spring and Bethesda.
Earlier this year Bethesda Magazine readers selected Gringos & Mariachis as the best new restaurant in Bethesda.
The Rockville-based developer Foulger-Pratt is building the 120,000-square-foot office and retail building where the new restaurant will be located. The developer plans to relocate its own headquarters to the new building.
