Updated at 2 p.m. – A Bethesda man died Friday morning after he was struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle on Massachusetts Avenue.
Police said they're still investigating why 64-year-old Timothy Aloysius Holden was hit by the driver of a Chevrolet Malibu just before 6:15 a.m. Police said Holden was headed east and so was the driver, 22-year-old Ricardo Kenard Freeman of Edgewood.
Holden, who lived nearby the site of the accident in the 5900 block of Carlton Lane, died at the scene, police said.
Montgomery County police Capt. Paul Starks said Holden was a former Navy Seal, according to The Washington Post. Police did not immediately know if Holden was struck while riding in the dedicated bike lane on Massachusetts Avenue or if he was riding in the vehicular lane, according to the report.
Police said Freeman remained on the scene. Officers are asking anybody with information on the collision to call the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.
Massachusetts Avenue between Sangamore Road and Goldsboro Road was closed for the police investigation until about 10:30 a.m. Friday.
