Update – 12:30 p.m. – Metro's train service was interrupted Wednesday morning on the Red Line after a train hit a low-hanging electrical wire over the tracks between the Grosvenor and Medical Center stations.
Metro announced on its Twitter account service was suspended at 11:23 a.m. By 11:48 a.m. the transit provider said trains were single tracking between the stations. At 12:30 p.m., Metro said trains were no longer single tracking.
Metro spokeswoman Sherri Ly said a southbound train made contact with the wire, but the incident didn't cause significant damage to the train and that no injuries have been reported. She said the after the train hit the wire it was moved back to Grosvenor station where passengers were offloaded.
Pepco spokesman Bob Hainey said a state crew was mowing grass near the tracks and hit a wire that supported a power pole. The poll then started to sag, which caused the wire to sag and then the train hit the wire, Hainey said.
Pepco crews are currently at the scene trying to put the wire back up, Hainey said. The work is causing some lane closures on northbound Rockville Pike at Grosvenor Lane.
Passengers who said they were on the train tweeted about the incident.
