A pre-kindergarten through eighth grade private school in North Bethesda completed the purchase of a next-door property that could one day lead to an expansion.
The Green Acres School, which now occupies a 15-acre lot in the Luxmanor neighborhood just south of Montrose Parkway, bought the 1.5-acre lot at 11677 Danville Drive for an undisclosed sum.
Head of School Neal Brown said there are no immediate plans for an expansion using the newly acquired land, but that it “opens up some interesting possibilities.”
The school’s enrollment usually hovers around 300 students, Brown said, and the existing campus facilities can hold a maximum of 320 students.
Last year, the school celebrated its 80th anniversary.
In an email to the school community, Brown and Michael Gaba, chair of the school’s board of trustees, said the purchase was made without taking on any additional debt and that it won’t affect tuition levels.
The purchase price wasn’t yet available on a state database of real estate transactions.
“We, along with the full Board of Trustees, believe strongly that this is a very positive strategic step for us to take,” read the email. “Expanding the school’s footprint opens up tremendous possibilities for campus improvement—and will likely have a dramatic impact on future master campus planning.”
Brown said the school will rent out the home on the property for the foreseeable future and has notified the Luxmanor Citizens Association of the purchase.
“Adjacent property doesn’t come available that often,” Brown said. “We also understand that there are a lot of things that would need to be put into place to expand.”
