A Montgomery County Department of Corrections officer has been charged with attempted rape after he allegedly assaulted a woman inside a bathroom at the Department of General Services building in Rockville.
County police said Tuesday the 26-year-old woman was being held as a pre-trial inmate and doing community service at the Seven Locks Road building June 9 when Jereme Keith Simmions, 32, of Laurel, followed her into the bathroom and assaulted her. While in the bathroom he allegedly told the woman that if they “engaged in sexual activity at a later date” he would sign off on her remaining community service hours, according to police.
Police said the woman was not incarcerated, but was satisfying community service hours for a criminal charge at the time of the alleged assault.
After the incident, police were notified and set up a sting operation. Investigators arranged for the woman to meet Simmons on June 25 at a pre-trial center on Ardennes Avenue in Rockville. During the meeting, police recorded Simmons apologizing to her several times and admitting that he planned to have sex with her the day he followed her into the bathroom.
Police arrested Simmons on July 7. He is charged with one count of attempted second-degree rape, one count of malfeasance in office and one count of sexual conduct between a correctional officer and an inmate. He was released on bond.
