Kensington – Mid-County Sparkles – Albert Einstein High School, 11135 Newport Mill Road, Kensington
This Montgomery County-sponsored event starts at 7:30 p.m. July 4 with a concert by Gringo Jingo, a Santana cover band. There will be two shuttles available to transport people from the Wheaton Metro parking garage and from the Westfield Wheaton mall lot next to Macy’s. The fireworks begin at 9:15 p.m. Those attending the event are allowed to bring low lawn chairs, blankets and coolers, but alcoholic beverages are not permitted.
Germantown – Germantown Glory – South Germantown Recreation Park, 8041 Central Park Circle, Boyds
Montgomery County is also sponsoring this show, which kicks off with a concert by the Tina Turner Revue at 7 p.m July 4. The fireworks begin at 9:15 p.m. Like the Kensington event, visitors are allowed to bring low lawn chairs, blankets and coolers, but no alcohol.
Rockville – Independence Day Celebration – Mattie J.T. Stepanek Park, 1800 Piccard Drive, Rockville
The city of Rockville is also hosting its own Fourth of July celebration. This year it will take place at Mattie J.T. Stepanek Park, a new venue for the celebration. The Nighthawks, The Fugitive Brass Quintet and the Rockville Concert Band are scheduled to play before the fireworks begin at 9:15 p.m.
Gaithersburg – Independence Day Celebration – Montgomery County Fairgrounds, 16 Chestnut St., Gaithersburg
The city of Gaithersburg will host its fireworks display at the fairgrounds July 4. The gates open at 5 p.m. and The Rollex Band takes the stage at 7 p.m. The fireworks begin at sundown. Visitors can bring their own food and blankets. Food will also be sold at the event. Alcoholic beverages, glass containers, bikes and pets are not allowed. Perry Parkway will be closed between Route 355 and West Diamond Avenue from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. for the event.
Takoma Park – Independence Day Parade and Fireworks – Takoma Park Middle School, 7611 Piney Branch Road, Takoma Park
Takoma Park will host its 126th annual Fourth of July celebration Saturday. The festivities begin with the parade, which lines up at 9 a.m. and then kicks off from the intersection of Carroll and Ethan Allan avenues at 10 a.m. The evening celebration at Takoma Park Middle School starts at 7 with music, a raffle and the announcement of the parade winners. The fireworks are scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m.
Town of Chevy Chase – Independence Day Picnic and Parade – Lawton Center Grounds, 4301 Willow Lane, Chevy Chase
The town is inviting residents to come out for a picnic and parade at Lawton Center from noon to 2 p.m. July 4. The family-friendly event will include bike, scooter and wagon decorating; music and games; a barbecue catered by Red, Hot & Blue; and the Ben and Jerry’s ice cream truck.
