The father of one of the two Thomas S. Wootton High School students killed in a car crash in North Potomac on Thursday night told hundreds of people gathered for a vigil Sunday night that “it was one bad mistake that turned our lives upside down and I no longer have my son.”
Speaking at the site of the crash, David Murk, the father of Alexander Murk, 18, said, “It’s a parent’s worst nightmare. I pulled into a driveway with two officers who told me my son was dead,” according to Montgomery Community Media.
Alexander, 18, of Potomac, and Calvin Jia-Xing Li, 18, of Rockville, were killed when the car they were riding in hit a tree and flipped over near Travilah Elementary School.
The car was driven by Samuel Ellis, 18, of North Potomac, who sustained critical injuries and remains hospitalized. A 17-year-old passenger was treated at the hospital and released. Montgomery County police have said that the students were coming from an underage drinking party.
Wootton High School Principal Michael Doran told those gathered at the vigil that they were welcome to come to Wootton this morning for counseling. “I love you all,” he said.
