The city of Gaithersburg is kicking off its free summer concert series with a joint concert featuring seven local barbershop choruses and quartets. Bring a blanket to sit and enjoy the sound of 80 singers from around the area performing a cappella.
Robin & Linda Williams—8 p.m. Saturday—AMP by Strathmore, North Bethesda
This storytelling duo performs a unique mix of folk, gospel, old-time and acoustic country music. The pair may be recognized from their association with Garrison Keillor’s iconic radio show, A Prairie Home Companion. Admission to the show is $35-45.
Best of Serenade! Showcase and Massed Choir Finale—4 p.m. Sunday—The Music Center at Strathmore, North Bethesda
This show is the culmination of a weekend full of performances for the 2015 Serenade! Washington, D.C., Choral Festival. This festival features 12 professional and community choirs from eight different countries. There are performances by different choirs throughout the weekend in D.C., Alexandria, Damascus, Frederick and Annapolis, and the Sunday show will feature all of the choirs performing together. Admission to the 4 p.m. Sunday showcase at The Music Center at Strathmore, North Bethesda, is $10.
Justin Trawick – 9 p.m. Friday – Villain & Saint, 7141 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda
Singer-songwriter Justin Trawick will play the new Bethesda concert venue Friday night. The doors open at 7 p.m. and he’s scheduled to take the stage at 9 p.m. Tickets are $10.
Strathmore Tours for Adults and Kids—10:15 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday—The Mansion at Strathmore, North Bethesda
Both kids and adults can learn about the arts during Saturday’s tours of The Mansion at Strathmore. At 10:15 a.m., there is a Children’s Art Talk & Tour, where kids can take an educational guided tour and do a hands-on art activity. This tour costs $5. At 1 p.m., adults can enjoy a free guided tour of the mansion’s current collection.
Red Baraat Concert—7 p.m. Saturday—BlackRock Center for the Arts, 12901 Town Commons Drive, Germantown
Take advantage of the first official Saturday night of summer and enjoy listening to Red Baraat, an eight-piece percussion and brass dance-party band that blends funk, jazz, hip-hop and go-go beats. The concert is free and located outdoors on the BlackRock front lawn, weather permitting.
