The anticipated Latin comfort food restaurant A.G. Kitchen is planning to open later this month at the former Macaroni Grill location in downtown Silver Spring.

The restaurant posted on its Facebook page earlier this week that it’s scheduled to open June 29 at 931 Ellsworth Drive. The approximately 8,000-square-foot restaurant will include space for up to 200 diners and a patio that seats about 40.

The eatery will be the latest by New York chef Alex Garcia, who operates several restaurants in New York City, including the original A.G. Kitchen.

The restaurant plans to serve a mix of Latin, Spanish and American cuisine, such as slow-roasted pork tacos, Cuban braised short ribs, a variety of hamburgers and paella. In addition to sit-down fare, the restaurant will also have a quick-serve taqueria facing Georgia Avenue.

Garcia is well-known in the dining world. He is credited with helping to popularize “Nuevo Latino” cuisine in New York City and was previously featured on the Food Network show Melting Pot in the early 2000s.
